I wish vegans would stop trying to reinvent meat. I generally enjoy vegan cuisine, but things like "vegan beef" and "beyond meat" always taste like fresh vomit. You just can't replicate bacon with coconut and spices. I also don't get why you would want to eat something advertised as meat as a vegan anyway. If you want to eat meat so much eat actual meat, and if you don't want to eat meat pick an actual vegan dish

as a meat eater i always wondered about this myself, and the best explanations i could come up with were recipe management (replacing "mince" with "vegan mince" in a spag bol recipe without too much change) and destigmatisation (one kid eating a "vegan sausage" while the other kids eat "meat sausages" looks less weird and feels less awkward than other kids eating "meat sausages" and one kid eating "unidentifiable protein substitute")

I'm a vego, and I think the same. It's easy to substitute veggie mince/bacon/ect. for the meat kind, and food is a social thing as well as just nutrition. I don't really like to eat meat substitutes, but if I have some at family gatherings I find it makes some family members feel better, because it looks similar they don't worry about me missing out or going hungry.

No, I don't mean substituting ingredients, I mean when they come up with somekind of foul vegetable smoo and call it beef or bacon or something of the like. A sausage is a sausage regardless of whet it's made of, you just change the descriptor when talking about it. But beef is only beef if it comes from a cow. Same with pork, venison and other meats. Not to mention these things never taste like the meat they claim to be (and they all taste horrible). I'd rather eat vegan alternatives

As a meat-eater, I think vegan meat usually tastes better than real meat. Maybe it's because my family were just never big on fixing meat even though we didn't technically try to be vegan or vegetarian.

Yes! It never replicates what you want it to, so stop pretending it's the same. Some vegan high-protein foods are delicious, but it's usually the ones that are less processed.

I’m a day late but market research shows that the majority of fake meat consumers buy it because they get sick from real meat. And now they’re learning it’s because of an allergy triggered by tick bites. It’s called alpha-gal syndrome.
