Re: Non-fandom secrets!

as a meat eater i always wondered about this myself, and the best explanations i could come up with were recipe management (replacing "mince" with "vegan mince" in a spag bol recipe without too much change) and destigmatisation (one kid eating a "vegan sausage" while the other kids eat "meat sausages" looks less weird and feels less awkward than other kids eating "meat sausages" and one kid eating "unidentifiable protein substitute")

I'm a vego, and I think the same. It's easy to substitute veggie mince/bacon/ect. for the meat kind, and food is a social thing as well as just nutrition. I don't really like to eat meat substitutes, but if I have some at family gatherings I find it makes some family members feel better, because it looks similar they don't worry about me missing out or going hungry.

No, I don't mean substituting ingredients, I mean when they come up with somekind of foul vegetable smoo and call it beef or bacon or something of the like. A sausage is a sausage regardless of whet it's made of, you just change the descriptor when talking about it. But beef is only beef if it comes from a cow. Same with pork, venison and other meats. Not to mention these things never taste like the meat they claim to be (and they all taste horrible). I'd rather eat vegan alternatives
