Question for the Jane Austen and Horse fans

What would be the sort of horse that would be seen as pretty flash or pretty acceptable for a gentleman to have ridden from London to the country in Jane Austin's time? I'm guessing that a Friesian is probably not the right answer, even though they are super cool horses.

I was googling pictures of Friesian horses to see if they were the breed I'm thinking of and spent 5 minutes just scrolling through the pretty pictures. I forgot what beautiful animals horses are.

Hmmm. I don't really recall horses being described by breed in novels of this era. Mostly it's by color/appearance and temperament - a handsome bay, a spirited gray, a docile white mare, etc. etc.

Thoroughbreds were famously the racehorses in England and could be bred for distance. There were three main sires: the Byerley Turk, the Darley Arabian, and the Godolphin Arabian, but a lot of Turks, Arabians, and Barbs were imported throughout the 18th century.

Arabs are sort of the gold standard in horse owning. Especially if your character prides themselves on good horsemanship.

Too many to list. If we’re talking in terms of amount of fanfic I’m going to say Interviews with Monster Girls, Rita (the Danish TV show), and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon.

Skulduggery Pleasant is more like a tiny fandom than rare I guess but I’m a multi shipper and most of my pairings have maybe one or two other fans going back to the earliest days (like ten years? Something like that). I also don’t ship the most popular pairing so my tiny fandom is even smaller :/

I haven't been in the fandom for years, but I always enjoyed AOS Scotty/Chekov. There was a pretty decent amount of (really good) fic, and I always felt it made more sense than Sulu/Chekov.

SO. I am very sleep deprived and very excited but also very hopped up on caffeine so if I lose my train of thought somewhere, uh, I'm sorry?

I adore this album. I'm SO into it. The aesthetic is drawn from 70s fashion and sonically wanders through electronic and synth-pop! This is a whole spacey, glittery, moody vibe inspired by 13 sleepless nights in her life.

(And a few more, besides that, since there's bonus tracks on the 3 AM edition.)

I've been listening to the album since it dropped and, honestly, I cannot rank them at all. It's impossible for me to pick favs.

Lavender Haze

From the very first beat this song is going 'hey, yeah, we're doing something new now, you wanna meet me at midnight? Let's go'. It's a love song about how she just wants to stay in that happy oh so in love zone, but that's everyone keeps trying to force her to define her relationship by old fashioned standards.

(All they keep asking me / is if I'm gonna be your bride / the only kinda girl they see / is a one-night or a wife.)

Maroon

This is about a relationship that's fallen apart and it's a BOP. The entire song is so very singable but, honestly, the chorus is what does this for me. I love the repeated uses of different kinds of red—we've got rosé, burgundy, blood rushing to her cheeks, both roses and carnations mentioned, rubies, scarlet, rust, lips, and it all adds up to maroon.

And 'maroon' also means to leave stranded, which for a song about a relationship that failed? Is absolutely perfect.

Anti-Hero

I feel personally attacked by this song. Knife through the heart. It's glorious. It's painful. It's so very relatable. It's the lead single and the music video for it is GREAT.

Really, though, I feel she picked the perfect song to be the lead single and if you only listen to one song off this album, I'd give this one a go.

I'm liking the album so far! It's more of a mellow thing for me, though, like, "Cool, yeah, I'm here for it." I'm not OBSESSED with any of the songs yet.

So far my favorites are Maroon, Anti-Hero, Vigilante Shit, and Glitch (off the 3AM edition). I love the 70's vibes, and I'm kind of obsessed with the promotional photography for the album.

I'm always ambivalent when a new Taylor Swift album comes out, because I'm a long-time fan, but in general my musical tastes lie elsewhere. So whenever she puts out new music, the critical part of my brain consistently finds it lacking, because it's just never as raw or as subtle as I'm looking for. It's only once I familiarize myself with the new material that I'm able to make peace with what the songs are, and appreciate them for what they are, without constantly wrestling with thoughts of what they're not.

I'm sure this opinion would get me labeled a "bad fan" in some circles, but I'm 35 and I don't have any fucks to give about performing my fannishness. At the end of the day, to me, Taylor Swift is like the world's best white chocolate. Do I like white chocolate generally? No. Do I like the world's best white chocolate? Yes, and IMO it's a fucking marvel that white chocolate has the potential to be that good. Do I still prefer good dark chocolate to the world's best white chocolate? Yes, because I just prefer dark chocolate generally.

Is there some kind of crash course/101 page available somewhere? I'm seeing words like interfacing and I'm just... I don't exactly want to Google or know where to start, but I know there's a few people here on the robot train. For reference, it's human/robot fic.
