Re: Halloween recs that are mild on scares?
(Anonymous) 2022-10-26 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)Transylvania 6-5000 is a HIGHLY goofy 80s movie with young Jeff Goldblum, Ed Begley jr, and Geena Davis, I watch it every October with even the non-horror fan in the family.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Once Bitten are both funny vampire movies-- Once Bitten is sillier, not as smart but still fun if you enjoy Jim Carrey. And The Lost Boys is fairly mild on scares (and you can just not look at the screen during the maggot-rice bit). The original Fright Night is maybe a little bit gnarlier than The Lost Boys in a couple places, but it's not a gorefest, either. Don't know how the remake compares.
Scare Me is GREAT-- it pretty much stays with two characters telling each other scary stories the whole time, so if you're a wuss about gore or jump scares but like scary stories, could be your speed.
Little Evil is a silly movie about a new step-dad parenting the antichrist, like if the Omen was a domestic comedy, if you like horror-themed things you can laugh at more than actual horror.
