Henry Cavill quits The Witcher

(Anonymous) 2022-10-29 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)

From season 4 on, Liam Hemsworth will take up the role.

And you know what? Good for him

Still funny though

This is one of the reasons I only watch closed canon. I cannot STAND when they change actors for the same character. Unless Liam isn't playing Geralt, and they're getting a new witcher.....

What a downgrade, lol.

sounds like it was a straight fight between geralt and superman and there was only ever going to be one winner

Is there going to be more Cavill as Superman?

Theres been an announcement a few days ago

Not really. He put off Superman for Witcher because he loves the games and books. He said from the beginning he’d only be involved if they stayed true to the books. They didn’t so it was more of a surprise he stayed for a 3rd season than it is that’s he’s now bounced.

I’m shocked he didn’t quit sooner. He’s a Witcher fan and while he hasn’t been loud about it, he hasn’t been entirely silent about his disappointment in the show, either. Netflix really should have replaced the showrunner after the first season and brought in someone who understood the books and could keep track of the plot lines and timelines. Costuming improved for s2 at least but that is solely down to Henry Cavill’s efforts. The showrunner and her staff really seemed to believe they did a good job on s1 and didn’t need to improve anything.

I wish they’d replaced the showrunner and Anya Chalotra, instead. Henry Cavill would have put everything else off if The Witcher was the show he dreamed it would be.

Why should they replace Yennefer's actress?

Re: Henry Cavill quits The Witcher

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Because she hates the source material and the show was very specifically supposed to be true to the source material. She was a big part of why they stopped adapting the books after s1. She’s also the only one who’s openly mocked Henry Cavill for being a Witcher fan. It makes no sense casting someone who hates the property as one of the main characters.

It's such a bummer since he didbsay he was fully committed to 7 seasons of being geralt :(

Re: Henry Cavill quits The Witcher

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep but only if they followed the source material. Season 2 was an absolute shitshow and it sounds like 3 isn’t going to be any better. The showrunner, writers, and Anya Charlota hated the source material which is why nothing in s2 is from the books.

So, should they handle this like a soap opera with a voice-over announcing the cast change at the beginning of the first episode of the season?

Or like when they switched Darrens in Bewitched and no one ever mentioned it?

Or like Due South, and there's an elaborate reason why "Geralt" is someone different now?

Or like Rosanne when Becky left and was replaced by Sarah Chalke and it was an occasional running gag?

The possibilities are endless!

Spooky Media Recs

A couple of the secrets made me want to ask, anyone enjoying anything of the spooky/horror variety at the moment? Tis the season after all.

I started Cabinet of Curiosities. Only got through the first two episodes, which were fairly similar thematically (terrible guy hurtling toward comeuppance) but everyone is saying the third episode is really good but also really, really gross/gory so I'm kinda putting off continuing. I have a strong-ish stomach but detest horror that relies on being shocking to the point of making people throw up.

Nothing new, but I rewatched Buffy recently, and there are some awesome scary moments. Hush is one of the scariest hours of tv ever. Fear itself was creepy and great. Helpless is super scary.

Scariest X-Files episodes - Squeeze, Ice, Darkness Falls, Unruhe, Folie a Deux

I mean Darkness Falls and Ice have basically the same plot setup as each other, and Squeeze and Unruhe pretty much do too, but if it works, it works

AYRT. I haven't re-watched The X Files in a while but I do remember the episodes you mentioned. Like a lot of people, I generally prefer the monster of the week episodes.

And I guess it's not strictly horror in the traditional sense but...Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose fucked me up. Just imagining being able to envision my own decomposition. No thanks!

Clyde Bruckman's is creepy but what an amazing episode though! I think that's my favorite X-Files episode.

Then there are also a few episodes that are not necessarily scary but very, very gross and/or fucked up, like The Host and Home (although Home is pretty scary too).

Re: Spooky Media Recs

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to add:

Die Hand Die Verletzt
Leonard Betts
Eve
Home
The Host

Re: Spooky Media Recs

Leonard Betts is great, Home and The Host are great (although The Host isn't really that scary, just really gross). Die Hand Die Vertletzt, the beginning and end are great but the middle part of the episode is kinda dodgy. And Eve is a great episode but it's not that creepy once you reach the part of the episode where they figure out what's basically going on (still really good, just not really scary).

Reading Magen Senki: Cyber Momotarou - it's, uh, pretty out there in the weird department. The manga is supposed to be a supernatural comedy but the main character is far more creepy than he is funny; a rare day when the hero is scarier than any of the villains.

Just all the Treehouse of Horror episodes.
