'Blorbo' has quickly become my least favorite fandom buzzword.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I've blocked it, it annoys me so much

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
What a curiously random thing to be that annoyed by.

obviously do what you gotta do (I did the same for discourse not too long ago due to one specific fandom I follow) - but I'm genuinely curious, does blocking that word make it harder to look through fandom?
I'm only asking cause in my fandom it seems to be everywhere - although I suppose it depend what your looking for (like fan art/fanfics).

I have only just encountered it recently here, and I have no friggin' clue.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It's rapidly outpacing 'smol' for me.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Smol? Presumably not the laundry brand.

I never see people using "smol" unironically anymore, that one feels dead to me

Yeah it's gotten up there as a dumb word I can't stand seeing anymore. It'll die off eventually but until it does, ugh.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
same. it went from used once in a group and roundly mocked to widely used everywhere I visit in like, two months. I hate it. it's just so nails-on-chalkboard irritating.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-31 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like it either. I have no idea about it origin and it sounds so stupid.

I hope it vanishes as soon quickly as it appeared

I've adored Eddy since I was 16, so I get you OP!

It’s hard to separate the facts from the fiction regarding Poe, but I think the alcoholism was real. In Hop-Frog, the jester is an alcoholic, and the evil king thinks he’s a funny drunk and orders him to drink, just one drink, just enough for some inspiration . . . I think Poe was working through some demons there.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I don't think there's any question that he had serious alcohol problems.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the cute Halloween design on this secret, and I share the Poe love, OP.

Are you excited for the Christian Bale movie, OP?

(tbc Bale isn't playing Poe, but it's basically a "Poe's first mystery" story)

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
YEAH

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Curious why he couldn't, idk, adopt this child instead of marrying her

[personal profile] rosehiptea 2022-10-30 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I am not a 19th century lawyer but it may have been easier legally easier to marry her than to adopt her. Also some say it was real marriage when she was older, though the OP probably knows way more than I do since I only just now did a google search on it.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Jules Verne, is that you???

(jk, op, you are valid. I'm quite surprised to find out about some literary convention like detective stories and find out that Edgar Allen Poe pioneered them.)

(Anonymous) 2022-10-31 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
He basically invented the modern detective story too - there probably wouldn't have been a Sherlock Holmes if there hadn't been an Auguste Dupin first.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-31 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I never thought of a real-life blorbo (nor do I use the word) but I realized mine is Johannes Kepler. XD

Not only is this secret GORGEOUS, it also warmed my cold, dead heart. <3

I get Allan/Allen wrong all the time. I'll spell it Allan, second-guess myself and change it, and then go fact-check and find out ugh I did it backwards again.

Maybe it's like Berenstain/Berenstein and there's a universe where he is Edgar Allen Poe lol
