I mean, "this is the worst timeline" memes have been flying around for aeons now, which is basically just a reskin of the same point, so I think most people are actually very, very, very aware.

You can make that argument with the sequel trilogy, but when the original creator writes the story then that is canon-fic not fanfic. The OT and PT are both canon. Everything else, up to you, but not those.

Been there, nonny, and that in-between phase is absolutely horrible. But FWIW, something new always comes along in the end, you just need to get through the emotional burnout and exhaustion first. It sucks beyond measure, and I really feel you, but especially if you were in your old fandom for a long time or were very intensively productive there, sometimes your creativity just needs some time to rest, recuperate, and reset.

The new thing will come. Just give it time, and try and hold on to that. <3

Uh, well, I completely disagree. What makes Superman who he is is that he's Smallville as a superhero. He's Clark Kent. Superman is a mask that allows him to do the superhero thing while protecting those he loves. But who he is at his core is the small town, genuinely kind and nice man.

Fair enough. Though personally I'd say the prequels are the kind of fanfic I love because it just hits my preferences juuuust right, instead of sub-par.

I feel similarly about Robin Hobbs' Apprentice trilogy, tbh, she may have written the rest herself making them canon but they feel kind of stitched on rather than part of a coherent whole.
