AYRT - I think I can. No, I'm not giving any info. I work for the local administration in a sense so I can't get away with simply not answering things, but this I feel like they won't be able to explain why they asked it in the first place even if I leave it blank so it's probably not going to change anything. Maybe I will just pretend I read it as "marital status" (because that's the usual question) and automatically wrote "single" .
