Random question, but is Kaeluc the name of the pairing regardless of who tops, or only Kaeya/Diluc, in that order? Because I've seen some Kaeluc comms / content / activity (from afar), and given Kaeya and Diluc's respective personalities, I'd be intrigued if fandom has mostly decided Kaeya ought to be the one calling the shots in this relationship.

It's a bit vague. It actually IS the ship name for the Kaeya!top Diluc!bottom dynamic while the opposite version is Luckae and tagging (especially NSFW) fanworks with the wrong tag can piss people off (there are plenty of dumb inner-ship wars over this). I'm not entirely sure but ironically, Luckae might be slightly more popular but it has a lot of stans either way.
In general though, the Kaeluc hashtag seems to be much more well known and especially antis are much rarer in the Luckae area.

Actually, there was a time when Kaeluc was prevalent and then antis dominated the Kaeluc tag with "EW! KAELUC" and Luckae became the anti-antis tag as far as I know but yeah, a lot of people go for switch dynamics.

This preference was probably because back then it was believed that Kaeya was a Khaenrian spy so villainous in some way, and this + flirtatious chaotic bi personality = top to Diluc's princely ukey woobified self. Now it seems less likely that Kaeya is villainous at all (if anything, it's been made clear that he is down bad for Mondstadt...) and Diluc is shadier than ever before so Luckae is probably the most popular version nowadays.

I see. And also, that's fascinating, how people's perception of both of them changed over time. I wonder if the official manga (that I haven't read) contributed to "innocent prince" Diluc characterization, too, because in the game I thought they were emphasizing a jaded, "he's basically Batman. In Mondstadt" thing.
