I think I don't get that anymore because it's rare for me to get a excited/ invested in something as I did when I was younger.

Short answer: yes.

From my experience of Tumblr-based fandom, people are infinitely more invested in making sure random strangers on the Internet know that their take is Wrong than in actually enjoying the thing they claim to enjoy.

Fandom isn't about liking or disliking a thing any more. It's about liking or disliking the people who like or dislike the thing.
