i've heard a different definition, which is that "comship" is for people who like "complicated" ships - i.e. someone who actively ships dark or taboo ships. i guess as opposed to someone who is simply ok with those ships existing and doesn't seek them out, who might be "proship" but not "comship"?

i don't know, it doesn't seem to be a very common term. i've only ever heard one person using it, which is the person who gave the above definition. it's not clear to me whether much of anyone actually self-identifies as "comship" or whether it's a term that's been imposed from the outside

That sounds like it comes from the same place as thinking "proship" is short for "problematic ship."

it almost feels like a response to that. like some proshipper got fed up with people thinking they liked problematic ships and came up with a term that would actually mean what antis say "proship" means so they could differentiate themselves from the real weirdos

but i have no idea what the actual origin of the term is. for all i know it was coined by someone who just really likes complicated ships? which i guess i can kind of relate to, since those are also the sort of ships i tend to like most, even if i find it really weird to want to, like, use that as a label to define myself. idk

+1000 I hate that "origin" soooo much
