These two are a low-key ship for me, as in I like them and think they're cute but I don't hardcore ship them so I've never stepped into the fandom beyond reading some fic here and there, all I've heard is how much of a dumpster fire it is though so even if I wanted to now I wouldn't for my own sanity.

The entire ff7 fandom is a trash fire tbh. Except maybe the Zack/Cloud fans, but that might just be that I personally have never seen them start shit.

I've got a mutual on twitter who's actually in the fandom and ships Cloud/Tifa, Cloud/Aerith and Tifa/Aerith and all I see is her dealing with aggro as shit fans from each ship's 'rival' ship shitting on her because she draws art for them all. It's nuts and I dunno how she keeps going there honestly(aside from blocking anyone that yells ater her, but she keeps having to do it because for every one she blocks another 5 come out of nowhere).

That's so shitty but so on brand for the ff7 fandom lmao, consistently biting the hand that feeds. There's this one dude who is so obsessed with a (potentially dead) NPC that he harassed one of the creators into no longer talking about the game on his twitter. It's clown hours all the time on ff7 twitter.

I was, but I truly can't recall any of their drama. It's quite possible that in a fandom where cleriths proudly joked about wearing pink nazi jackboots and swastikas and clotis were running background checks and calling people's jobs that whatever nonsense the Cloud/Zack fans got up was just less memorable.

Weirdly, at that point in time (around 2007?) I was in Gaiaonline (yeah) more often than LJ so I don't remember any of this. All I remember are clack fans being very fetichistic / creepy but not unlike most teenage girls in 2007 Gaia Online (in a sense I am to blame)

I think it started because a cloti called one of them a nazi (Godwin’s law in full effect) and then they ran with it, “jokingly” referring the to themselves as nazi generals of cloti genocide or something similar. It was not fucking great. You can still find screen caps on Twitter of some of the most awful offenses.
