These two are a low-key ship for me, as in I like them and think they're cute but I don't hardcore ship them so I've never stepped into the fandom beyond reading some fic here and there, all I've heard is how much of a dumpster fire it is though so even if I wanted to now I wouldn't for my own sanity.

The entire ff7 fandom is a trash fire tbh. Except maybe the Zack/Cloud fans, but that might just be that I personally have never seen them start shit.

I've got a mutual on twitter who's actually in the fandom and ships Cloud/Tifa, Cloud/Aerith and Tifa/Aerith and all I see is her dealing with aggro as shit fans from each ship's 'rival' ship shitting on her because she draws art for them all. It's nuts and I dunno how she keeps going there honestly(aside from blocking anyone that yells ater her, but she keeps having to do it because for every one she blocks another 5 come out of nowhere).

As far as I'm concerned that ship makes even less sense than Aerith/Cloud. Except in the sense that it's pretty canon that Tifa had an unrequited crush on Cloud.

Cloud seemed uninterested in romance in the original game or in the remake imo. The only really shippy interactions he had was when Aerith was being flirty - but it never came across as being serious for any of them - or when Sephiroth was being creepy.

It’s pretty heavily implied that Cloud had a crush on Tifa when they were kids too. It’s valid to think of Cloud as aroace, but it’s not canonically confirmed anymore than which ship is more likely being confirmed. And Cloti makes just as much sense as Clerith. Don’t know where you’re coming from there at all.

I’d have to agree. This is my OTP for FF7; in that it’s the one I ship the most. But I’m also still a multishipper, and like other ships as well. Including “competition” ships, like Clerith, Clack, and Aerti. So considering I’m not against Cloud or Aerith being shipped with anyone besides each other, it’s always frustrating to see other Cloti shippers being such asses to people. And I’ve seen it happen a lot since the original game came out. And while I’m sure overly militant fans exist for Clerith too, I haven’t seen Clerith shippers invade Cloti spaces to insult the ship the way I’ve seen Cloti shippers to it to Clerith shippers.

IMO, this is more or less the case for any of the big love triangle ship wars - Cloti vs Clerith, Kataang vs Zutara, Harmony vs Romione. Both sides got absolutely vicious in every case, and it was all about which would be canon. And then canon got sorted out and the winners got smug.

To be honest I love Aerith so of course I would love Clerith too. But my issue with Cloti fans and Tifa fans in general is less about "losing" the love triangle (honestly used to that) and more about the things I have seen them call Aerith really. Maybe it's just the places I visit - I have always felt that women generally like Tifa better than Aerith while men might like either, and being a woman who tends to be in communities with more women than men I have seen a lot of people bashing Aerith for baseless reasons and still get a lot of support. Like thin-veiled misogyny while still sounding self-righteous. This made me actively dislike Tifa for a while. If it wasn't for that, eh, she isn't a bad character, just not my type.

And I feel like Tifa fans have seen the other side of the coin so I can't blame anyone for disdaining a character because their fans suck lol.

I love both Tifa and Aerith so much, so I hate to see either get bashed. I’m glad I haven’t been to any of these spaces personally, because the internalized misogyny directed at Aerith would make me so angry!

The bashing of both women is horrendous. Both fandoms need to be kicked in the balls/punched in the tits for the way they talk about the woman they view as the threat to their ship.
