IMO, this is more or less the case for any of the big love triangle ship wars - Cloti vs Clerith, Kataang vs Zutara, Harmony vs Romione. Both sides got absolutely vicious in every case, and it was all about which would be canon. And then canon got sorted out and the winners got smug.
