I'm still going to say it, if someone brings it up. It's a reaction to all the years of snobs condescendingly explaining that it can't be a Christmas movie because it's an action movie.

There is absolutely no history of that lol. Like, the whole reason that "Die Hard is a Christmas movie" became a thing in the first place is because it was contrarian and unexpected. That was the whole point of it. Come on now. This is revisionist history.

No, but there are people who try go insist you have to watch "proper" Christmas movies during the holiday. Just because it is Christmas, even if you don't like those movies. And it is really annoying.

I thought it became a thing so people who don't like any traditional Christmassy Christmas movies would have an answer when someone asked what their favorite Christmas movie is.

ayrt

No, that is absolutely what I heard from people when I told them one of my favorite Christmas movies was Die Hard. And I wasn't being contrarian, my Christmas movie go-tos are Die Hard, Home Alone, While You Were Sleeping, Dr Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966), Love Actually, with the occasional addition of Die Hard 2: Die Harder.

'There's absolutely no history of that'

...Uh yes there is. Up until about two years ago it was the standard response to me listing it as one of my favourite Christmas movies.

Why do you think trying to gaslight people that they didn’t actually experience what they experienced will work or make you look like you know what you’re talking about?

And honestly, I'd rather watch a movie I enjoy at Christmastime. I hate fluffy, gooey, or romantic movies. Just not my thing. Power to those who love them. But I'm not going to watch something I don't enjoy just because it is an official Christmas movie.

Yeah. You're totally not being a tiresome pedant, you're just protesting the War Against Die Hard!

You and OP sound way more tiresome tbh.

They really don’t.

(Anonymous) 2022-12-11 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh they really really do.

Nah.

You can keep saying it, but it doesn’t make it true. And you might say the same to me, and I’m not saying I’m objectively correct. Just that you definitely aren’t either. There’s been enough people who disagree with both of us about the tone of OP’s secret for either of us to be. And while they haven’t had as much reactions; AYRT isn’t being that different than OP. Hence, they’re words don’t sound objectively tired in the same way OP’s don’t. And you trying to keep this back and forth going is pointless.
