I kinda feel the same way but mostly out of spite that no one goes this hard about my own favorite Christmas movie, Lethal Weapon.

I mean come on, they go on and on about Die Hard, it could at least get a mention.

And it's been this way before everyone knew Mel Gibson was problematic, so that's not it. :P

I'm still going to say it, if someone brings it up. It's a reaction to all the years of snobs condescendingly explaining that it can't be a Christmas movie because it's an action movie.

The Christmas movie discussion is just an excuse to talk about your Die Hard rewatching plans on the 24th though.

At this stage it's just part of the (pop) cultural conversation that happens in the holidays, like 'I can't stand Christmas music before X date' or 'All I Want For Christmas is You is a pop song first, then a Christmas song' or 'Love Actually sucks actually: yes or no'

You hear it again and again because there's just not much new to talk about at Christmas, because most people just do the same thing every year. Which is basically the appeal of holiday traditions.

I get that from all 3 LOTR movies, and nothing hits me quite the same. I still get it every time I watch them. Nothing else hits me that hard, even Star Wars.

As a trans masc person, I'm strangely the opposite?? Fic acknowledging that trans men can carry feels very validating to me. That I tend to stick to plotty fics and not kinky fics might be a factor in that; but either way, it's interesting to see how people in similar circumstances can differ so wildly on a matter!
