I think that your argument is flimsy and full of holes. I have a pretty good suspension of disbelief when it comes to CGI, but I have my limits like everyone does.

I am sick of hearing people complain about how “bad” the CG in the anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man is, though. Mother’s Basement’s Geoff is hit and miss with his takes for me, but I think his video on CGI-phobia in anime was well done, and he puts it succinctly. But even then, he talks about how bad CG still definitely exists, in every form of media. Because you can defend the practice of using CGI in general without pretending it’s all good. Because that’s not a realistic view.

People are complaining about that?! Compared to the full CGI Mecha Fantasy shows, personally, I don't find it bad at all/that bad. I'm not a big fan of CGI in anime/cartoons in general, bit this show has an odd, almost rotoscoped vibe about its CGI that doesn't put me off. But different strokes, I guess.

I’m not entirely fond of CG in animation either, unless it’s helping traditional 2D animation stand out and flow. Which is what they’re doing for Chainsaw Man, and I think it looks great. Agreed, it does looked rotoscoped in a cool way. You’re right, it is different strokes, and I understand that not everyone will like it.

DA

Look what Mappa are doing with Chainsaw Man is kind of cool... or at least it would be if it were an original project. The charm of the manga is in its irregularities and roughness. It's just as offensive as what they did to Dorohedoro.

It gets that aspect of the manga down very well. It’s got a pace to it that communicates the roughness near flawlessly. And the theme of irregularities is a strange quibble against the anime considering it’s a theme of the manga in pretty much everything but the artstyle. The art isn’t the most common style you’ll see in manga, but it’s not the most out of the ordinary either in terms of design. That’s not me knocking it, the art in the manga is absolutely fantastic. So it’s not a flaw with the anime for not having the theme in the animation itself when the art it’s adapting wasn’t even the part that communicates the theme of irregularity the most. That would be the characters, the story, the aesthetic, the inner workings of the world you’re viewing. The Human World, Hell, the Devils and Devil Hunters, all of that world building. All of that is what gets the theme of irregularity, of uniqueness down perfectly. And saying it would cool if only it was an original project is you admitting it looks good, but still reaching for a reason to dislike it.
