What are you loving today and what are you hating?

Loving: I'm writing a saucy fic for my rare pair and I'm quite satisfied with a certain scene. Oh ho.
Hating: I am the only one who is writing saucy fic for this rare pare. Once again I have fallen for a ship with no other available fanworks online and I am left feeding myself if I wish to eat.

Loving: Discovered a new-to-me Celtic band (well, technically Scottish folk) while searching for more Celtic Christmas tunes.

Hating: my inability to progress/finish my Secret Santa and fic.

Hating: The sun never really came out today, and it was depressing as fuck. Just a white-gray sky in the morning/afternoon, and then by 4:00 it was dark.
Loving: I bought a pine tree-scented candle because I was missing the Christmases of my childhood but I don't have room for a tree in my apartment, and it's really doing the trick. I was worried it would be too strong, but I've been burning it for like an hour now, and it's not overpowering or gross yet. :)

That candle sounds really nice! I'm not allowed to burn any where I live, so I have to use diffusers or plugins.

Hating: when they get men to play fat women. Like with Hairspray. Don't care that it was tradition from the theater version. That's awful too. Ruins what is otherwise an amazing movie.

It predates the theatre version. The original John Waters film has drag queen Divine as the mom. (You can still hate it, but just know that its history is longer than you realized.)

Loving: Success at getting a thing at work into nearly working order, after I suggested the logic to a coworker who knows more actual PHP than I do. He got the basics of it going and then when I looked at the code I saw how I could expand on it to do a bunch of other things. Also loving the package that just arrived from a friend (who I knew was sending a keychain of a favorite character of ours that she made, and it is even cooler than I expected - but she also sent chocolate :D)

Hating: The fact I couldn't just code the whole thing by myself without asking for someone to do the initial work, and my stomach not letting me actually eat chocolate (or anything else), or go get groceries like I really kind of should by now, or sing. Also discovering that the Rock Band in-game music store is dead, I can't buy more tracks for RB2-3, and now that they finally released some more Muse tracks, you can only buy them in RB4... and I do not have RB4. :/

I'm loving that I actually wrote a fic. I'm hating that it has no hits. Small fandoms, yay.

If you write them enough and people like the fic(s), other people might start writing them too. It happened to me a couple of times. But it did take a while, so I hear you.

Loving: I'm writing fanfic again myself and fairly happy with what I'm producing. (It's all for an exchange so hasn't been put up yet, so I'll have to wait to see if other people like it.)

Hating: I don't seem to be accomplishing anything else, including cooking and cleaning, which is definitely a problem. (I don't mean this is happening because I'm writing. Just that writing is the only thing that my executive dysfunction hasn't killed.)

Loving: I got permission from the author of this fic i like to write my own continuation of it! They had abandoned it after 2 chapters cause they got too busy to keep writing it, but they told me "knock yourself out!" when i left them a comment. I wasn't expecting them to reply, but they just so happened to log into their account after a year on the same day I left the comment, so I got pretty lucky!

Hating: The weird amount of wank that's been going on in the Detroit Become Human fandom lately. Wank was never super bad over here and for the last few years its been really quiet. Now we're seeing a resurgence.

Loving: Demon Mythic Path on Wrath of the Righteous. I've got a half orc barbarian and I'm comitting to romancing Camillia. I'll miss Socothbenoth and Daeran and Aivu but I am going to fuck up some shit this time. Also, unrelated, Caravan Palace rules.

Hating: Every TV media franchise thing I try to jump into is so mediocre I bounce off after an episode. I don't have high standards. I want to love the Marvel and ASOIAF and LOTR and Star Wars and DC such but I'm just not feeling it. No I haven't seen Andor, I'm not planning on it. I don't care if that's The Really Good One ok I've heard that line too many times before.

Loving: I just discovered that there is Goncharov fanfiction, because of course there is. More of it than there is for some of my actual fandoms, for that matter. I'm not sure what it is about nonexistent media, maybe I just like the feeling of being in on a huge inside joke, but I seem to be addicted to it, and I'm gonna read the shit out of this.

Hating: I'm catsitting, which would normally be a great thing, but the vet told my mom to stop giving her snacks, and I'm faithfully obeying, but kitty loves food so much and always begs for it when it's not her meal time and it hurts me to say no to her all day. I'm even less upset about the fact that she woke me up at 5 AM today to ask for food than I am about the fact that I couldn't give her any.

I’m on my phone and can’t link it but there’s this great Psych fic where Shawn is comparing the case to Goncharov and Gus keeps telling him he’s never been able to find any evidence that Goncharov exists. I also read a couple of the f/f fics and they were fun.

Loving: my newest Project Sekai card isn't the rarest but its story inspired me to move on with life ... for how bland a gacha it is, and obviously for high school kids, it's still pretty inspiring at times and I will admit my fave character's story had me crying.

Hating: back pain. Also, even during PSN year end sale season the games I want are still pretty expensive. Enjoying JRPGs is no fun.

Uhh... maybe opening a can of worms here but yesterday's comments on "Not Like The Other Girls" had me thinkin' and I guess I just wanted to understand some anons' points of view because I tried to but really didn't. (There was an exchange that ended in "Oh okay, I understand now. Thanks!" and I am glad anon understood because I still didn't)

But it also had me thinking about mysogyny. Not sure where y'all live but here, hitting the gym seems to be the new "cool" for young men. And a man who says "I think you're all gym rats and this crap sucks" not because he's being a pick-me, but simply because he doesn't like it, wouldn't be "Not Like The Other Men" they would be "a man who doesn't like to hit the gym" merely. "Gym rats" could (and would) criticize him and probably throw some moralizing "it's good for health!" words at him - but in the end *it's just his preference* .
My point being: of course we all think our preferences are better. They're our preferences after all. We prefer them, because they're better... TO US. Doesn't mean they are universally better - they are better TO US which is what some people seem to be unable to acknowledge on a deeper level unfortunately.
So when a girl says "it seems to me that a lot of girls like this thing but I don't because ()" I fail to see how/why that should be a bad thing or "NLTOG" in any way. They're reaching out, they're bothering to explain. "A feeling of superiority"... sounds abstract and vague, but of course it would be implicit. It's the thing we like after all, we like it because we think it's good or better. Right?
Again, to me being a NLTOG girl means being a pick-me "look how different from girls (ew) I am" kinda girl. Not in a GNC way, in a tryhard and maybe mysogynistic way.

On a related side note, people were also talking about bullying and how "girls bullied by girls get to see their lives portrayed in fiction and girls bullied by boys largely don't" and my first thought was "disagree?" but then I remembered it's about what you were exposed to. It's true of American media - particularly YA - probably, in which "preps" are "mean girls" and boys would never be rude to young ladies etc. But in shojo manga (and real life ofc) I have seen many girls who are bullied by nearly everyone. (As a young girl who was bullied by nearly everyone, of course that hit home, lol.)

Ladbaby are covering it this year and the first thing I thought of the other day when I read the news was the secret from a week or two ago.

I loved Ladbaby at first when they were just getting popular but kinda lost interest and they commercialised more and more. I’ve been so happy to see them succeed though and always root for them for the Christmas number 1 since they started doing that in I think it was 2018. But DTKIC has always been so cringey to me and this is just…ick.

Notice to the anon who wanted a gay version of Santa Baby called Santa Daddy. I am on friendly terms with a lot of members of the local gay men's chorus and I told a few of them about that idea at a party last night and got a pretty warm reception so let's wait and see if that shows up at their concert next year.
