Well we all know that Christmas was never about Jesus, not really, it was about nicking a midwinter blowout from the pagans because early Christianity had a gap in the calendar and wanted to have a holiday there to steal focus.

like, the thing is, (a) the reason pagans had holidays in midwinter is because it's just sort of a natural time to have a holiday, so it makes sense that Christians would also have a holiday there for the same reasons (b) there's an obvious symbolism with having Jesus born at the time of the winter solstice (c) Christians traditionally believed that the Annunciation took place on the spring equinox for similar symbolic reasons, and obviously the math there works out for a Christmas birthday

Some of us do, yeah. And I'd still say the pagans throw the more interesting parties, but that might vary depending on what your friends and family are like.

One thing I do appreciate is that it's gotten less socially unacceptable to break traditions when they're not working for you.
