This is different than the kind of opinion everyone else is sharing, but...

I find reading about blowjobs in fic SO boring. I'm ace and find sex scenes in general boring, but blowjobs are so much more boring to me than any other sexual thing.

I get the impression that a lot of writers are scared to write things that are more in touch with their own experience of how sex works, and this is especially true with BJs because the idealized narrative and the reality are kind of at odds with each other.

I'm ace and blowjobs are the only type of sex act I never find boring to read about.

I can find others fun to read too, but it depends on how they're written. But the mere mention of blowjobs in the fics tag will make me excited to read it.

Sure. Here's some TMI possibly, but I think that's expected with a question like this.

I think the anon above me kind of has the right idea. The further from experiencing it in reality you are, the more appealing it can be to read about. I like to imagine myself as the giver and receiver of the act. In one case that's impossible because I don't have a dick. I can only imagine having one, and I can imagine it feeling amazing if I got a blowjob. On the other hand, cunnilingus rarely does anything for me because if I imagine hard enough or if it's written in such a way, I can imagine the sensation of it happening to me and I don't really like it. And with PIV sex I know what it feels like and I don't really like it.

If I project onto the character giving the blowjob, I don't have the graphic firsthand knowledge of what a dick in my mouth would feel like. I can imagine it's not gross and messy; I can't do that with parts I live with on my body every day. I can let go of all that and just focus on how fun it would be to manipulate the other person's most sensitive physical sensations with my tongue.

I'm also ace, but I do enjoy smut. My feelings about blowjobs in fanfic depend entirely on how they're written. I do often find them boring, I think because I tend to find foreplay boring, and blowjobs are often treated as foreplay. I love urgency and desperation in sex scenes, and I tend to get bored of sex scenes that lack those elements. Unfortunately, having the characters do a bunch of foreplay and prep tends to sap the sense of urgency and desperation for me. OTOH, all kinds of sex acts, including BJs, can be hot to me if the author manages to sustain the urgency and desperation. The biggest thing I look for in a BJ scene is for the giver to be extremely enthusiastic, and for them to come while they're giving head--either untouched or rubbing against something.

My least favorite kind of oral sex is the kind where nobody comes and it's merely treated as transitional foreplay before the PIV/PIA part. That's the kind of oral that personally I almost always find boring.

Interesting thread. I'm ace as well and I love reading and writing smut. Lately writing more than reading.

Upthread, someone else said they don't like foreplay much because it's about the desperation that's hot.
I'm sorta the opposite atm.

I love foreplay, building up the heat, appreciating the body and person.

Oral sex for me is a game of power and joy. Who's in control? The giver or receiver? What's making one or both parties enjoy the blowjob so much? That's where all the sexy stuff resides for me and why I do enjoy them (but it does depends on the execution).

I do like oral sex (both cunnilingus and fallacio) where it's the sole sex act and/or where the receiver cums also!! I don't mind it being part of foreplay to get the sex going, but I like variety so it can be really disappointing if oral happens as "foreplay" more than as the main event (OT like let's have more 69 scenes in fics? In my fandom it's not a popular scene)

Agreed! I always tune out of fics when blowjobs are happening, if I don’t skip that part altogether. And I’m always seriously disappointed when blowjobs are the only kind of sex act in a fic. I also fine them really unappealing irl.
