I love the Addams Family. But I'm not watching Wednesday. I'm just mostly interested in Gomez and Morticia. The kids are the least interesting characters to me, so I'm not interested in a show centered around either of them. But I feel guilty because I think this might make me a bad fan.

Personally I would say no, it definitely doesn't. I literally only watched The Addams Family this Halloween, and while I liked it for being iconic and for its sort of bizarro counter-culture coolness, I didn't LOVE it or anything. But even as someone who isn't really a TAF fan, Wednesday was only remotely enjoyable to me if I actively made the effort to think about it as its own thing, and not think about it in connection with TAF too much. As a continuation of TAF I think it absolutely sucks. (Also, it does Morticia and Gomez SO dirty; pretty much every moment they were on screen pissed me off, lol.)

Just my two cents, YMMV, etc.

It is supposed to be its own thing. Every version of The Addams Family is its own universe so to speak and some are more different than others. Wednesday draws most of its inspiration from the movies, but it's not a continuation of them. That said, I don't think it's great, but as a fan of the character Wednesday I think Jenna Ortega nails her movie persona and that had me enjoying it a fair amount, even though it's pretty much your typical supernatural teen show but starring Wednesday Addams.

Obviously it's its own show, because...it isn't any of the other previous iterations. Like, yeah. But it's not it's own original property. And it's really bad (IMO) at carrying over the salient qualities of previous, more seminal manifestations of TAF.

It's tolerable if weak when taken as an original story about a sort of cartoonishly macabre and scowly teenage girl sleuth named Wednesday. If you expect it to actually do any justice to the source material it's overtly bound itself to, though, then it's just bad. IMO.

I was pretty disappointed in most of it and I usually love the Addamses.
