I found a Harry Potter-Game of Thrones crossover fic with a really great set up, decent-ish character voice, and the author had clearly wanted to write longfic. And it sucked. The author's grasp of basic grammar and spelling was woefully, and had clearly not even self-proofread it. Please, people, I know everyone can't always get a beta reader, but at least self-proofread your own stuff. It doesn't matter how great your grasp of canon or how good your premise is, if nobody can read it without wincing.
