The collective taste of Booktok is largely the collective taste of readers. I mean obviously there are some demographics of bookreaders who don't go on Tiktok. But it's not a bad approximation of what readers actually want. "Shitty YA written for the post-Twilight crowd" is in fact what a lot of readers want. Those are the books that people actually enjoy and want to read. Booktok didn't make readers like those books. This is what real people actually want from books.
