I dislike when fics give my favorite characters tattoos. I find tattoos a turn-off; I just always have for some reason. I can’t relate to finding them a turn-on (which is usually how they’re written in tattoo fics), and I also can’t relate to wanting tattoos myself. I’ve tried reading a few tattoo fics over the years, but I always end up noping out part way through.

S!B it’s sincerely not my desire to make anyone feel scrutinized or judged for their tattoos, but obviously this secret has the potential to do that.

Also, this isn't the most trivial reason to be put off of a fic, but surely it's up there.

I feel similarly, but with piercings instead of tattoos.

AYRT - I think I probably would feel the same way about piercings except I don't think I've ever actually come across any fics that give one of the characters lots of piercings that they don't have canonically. I don't doubt that those fics exist, it just hasn't been A Thing in any of the small handful of fandoms I frequent, so I've never had a reason to feel privately, inwardly disgruntled about it.

Oh man in my current primary fandom I have to ignore SO many personally-squicky non-canon nipple piercings. An ear piercing I can do-- seems reasonable, and doesn't bother me as much in general-- but for a while, every other fic threw in nipple piercings and it was my personal hell.

(my current and previous main fandoms had canon tattoos for at least one character, so... no problems there? or at least, I knew what I'd be getting into on that front)

If a character previously has a tattoo or piercing I can find it hot and I have never wanted a tattoo and don't particularly want piercings either. But if they don't? ew

A valid opinion, and not an uncommon one; hence tattoo fic as a trope.
