I was really confused about it being "restored" to the DVD, because it is right there on my old DVD. I finally realized the answer is, because wide-screen looks crappy on my old TV, I always opt for the version formatted to fit the TV, and that is the extended version which always included the song. I never saw the film in a theatre so I never realized the song was lost!
