I mean, the plural of anecdote is not data and all, but in my personal experience, the only things that get me off my ass to the tune of masking/faking normalcy/working myself to the bone are a) hyperfixations and b) crises where I can possibly help someone else.

And while I don't necessarily want to see those traits reflected in things I watch and read, they might be good traits to help a chosen one forestall an apocalypse, without requiring constant masking, and still allowing for abject failure in non-apocalypse matters without jeopardizing the main plot.
