Yup. A lot of authors tag on AO3 like they are on tumblr.

Nayrt, but I actually kinda appreciate the Tumblr style tags because so many fic authors are just terrible at creating summaries. The Tumblr style tags at least tend to give a pretty decent indication of what's inside as well as what kind of writing style you might find

Can you clarify what you mean with tumblr style tags? Cause I can filter for "blow job" but I can't do the same for "lol character x gives character y a blowjob and it sucks (literally hehehe)" and it's endlessly frustrating sometimes, both when I search for things and try to exclude things.

I DO find the occasional "not betas, we die like *insert fandom specific character* here" kinda funny and I don't mind one or two amusing tags, as long as the rest of the tags are used correctly.

Personally what I mean is what you are talking about. Where the tags are random sentences that aren't actually useful for tagging and are unique only to that fic. Which defeats what tags are for.

I assumed so, but the anon above said that they kinda appreciate it and I'm curious if we have the same understanding of what "tumblr style tags" means!

(Anonymous) 2023-01-08 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm the anon above and yeah what I meant was that the tags which are like "lol character x does thus and such teehee" tell you something about what the fic is probably gonna be like in tone and style

I will second anon with tumblr tags. I thi k they can be fun if used in moderation

+2

Yeah, I like them as long as it's not too OTT. They're fun, they're breezy, they're fannish, sometimes they make me laugh, and they genuinely do a good job of helping you understand what the story's going to be like.

Also, as soon as a tag wrangler gets to it, that "lol character x gives character y a blowjob and it sucks (literally hehehe)" tag will be synned to Blowjobs - it just takes a little time.

I don't mind them in addition to the "actual" tags--which is how I feel on tumblr too. Tag "blow job" for the actual search/filter functions, and then afterward feel free to go "lmao X gives Y a BJ and it's awkwardtimes" all you want. Saves everyone some time and annoyance and still gets the vibe!

I think if they used both tags, you could still filter out what you don't want and Other Anon could still get an idea of what the fic is about even if the author is terrible at summaries, so win-win. Obviously, the problem is that people don't do that (or, you know, get better at summaries AND tagging).
