Having the space hooker raped to death by space cannibals, for example. The man has issues!

OMG really?
Anyone has a source? I want to read something that would fuel my Firefly hate

DA

I don't remember where I first heard this, but the idea was that syringe we see Inara with wasn't a suicide plan but some weird chemical she could inject herself with so everyone who had sex with her would die. And then, after a reaver attack, we'd discover her (corpse?) surrounded by tons of dead reavers. Which, like, YIKES, but also how the fuck would you exposition that out?

If you google "Inara syringe" there's a cbr article that links to an interview so this might be legit.

It was never in the plan for Inara herself to be raped to death. The idea that she would be violently raped by reavers (just not to death) was a possible future plot point, though.

I'm not saying Firefly would've been a masterpiece, nor am I opposed to criticism of Whedon's work, but personally I LOVE the idea of a character being like, "I can't stop them from raping me but I can use what they're going to do to me to take them out." I find that an incredibly interesting and cathartic handling of the subject matter.

I remember reading about that and in the end Mal "Finally regards Inara with respect" or "Sees her true dignity" or some shit like that. Like, WHAT?!

Hmm, I would find that type of storyline cathartic in the right context too, but it would land oddly for me in a hypothetical later Firefly season.

That would be what I'm referring to!
