God, THIS.

The fact that AO3 doesn't have ads and doesn't collect or sell user data means that it has no profit stream that most other big web sites do. More users reading it doesn't increase their income, it actually costs them money because it increases the server load, hence bandwidth and maintenance costs.

I donate because it's absolutely worth it to me to have a site that doesn't have ads, doesn't collect or sell user data, and has no paid tier system and doesn't put any content behind a paywall so the experience is the same whether one donates or not. That's actually kind of precious and rare.

I have no problem with people putting commission info or ko-fi links or whatever on their own personal social media accounts (which they can link to on AO3 as long as there is a step removed). I absolutely do not want advertising-for-profit in ANY form on AO3 at all, including that.
