I found the idea of it really cool and interesting for the genre and for the movie-verse in "Happy Deathday" and "Happy Deathday 2 U". Too bad we likely won't get anything outside of those two movies.

It's never been a favorite of mine either. Sometimes it's fun if they go really weird with it, or if they explore the reason why this universe is so different. Where maybe one decision changed everything. But most of the time they don't really go that far.

There’s this one sci-fi short story, I can’t remember the title, where a society has discovered the multiverse, and the MC is investigating why so many people are killing themselves or others. I’ve never been able to read multiverse stories after that.

When a gambler won big, he realized that elsewhere in the multiverse, he lost, and killed himself at the pointlessness of it all. Someone committed multiple homicides out of rage that this version of her doesn’t have a boyfriend while other versions of her do. Humanity can’t handle the knowledge and f how meaningless its own success or failure is.

The MC realizes this, and he runs out of his office, yelling that he’s found the answer. And in a different twist of the multiverse, he walks out shaking his head, because he knows what’s happening, but he can’t fix it. And he laughs at himself, because his idea is stupid, and nobody would kill themselves over a philosophical point. And he looks at his gun, and puts it back in the drawer, his hand shaking, because he knows what he did just one universe over. And he fires the gun, but the chamber is empty. And he fires the gun, but it jerks and blasts a hole in the ceiling. And he fires the gun, and it takes off the top of his head.

I can see why you might like Sliders and not the others - because Sliders was built as a story about travelling a multiverse. In the others, it's kind of just introduced either on a whim, or to fix a plot problem and it's not the point of the show.

No, I mean, come on. It's a ship that's often used for armed diplomacy and exploring in the dangerous reaches of space. It's constantly in danger of blowing up. The dissonance of having families in that situation is obvious.

Personally I like the underlying idea although the execution was very flawed at times. A lot of it suffered from not really thinking through the details - IE, how awkward and difficult to execute the whole saucer separation concept was.

But it's not fashy to dislike it FFS.
