Huh, I'm gonna depart from the previous comments. I think you're a hero. I've had people delete gifts they made for me and things I've loved that I bookmarked but which I hadn't saved so... I wish someone had preserved it. And I also wish more authors used orphaning rather than deleting their fic entirely, especially if people read and liked it.

Same. And deleting a gift is LOW.

I've had someone orphan a gift to me, and that's fine! At least I get to read it again.

I don't like it when authors delete their fic instead of orphaning.

But it's still their choice. It's not OP's place to make that call for them. It's obviously fine for them to save the fic, but it's not fine for them to re-upload it without the original author's permission. I don't think there's really a lot of room for ambiguity on this one.

nayrt
If I found out someone did this to my deleted fics, I'd probably have an anxiety attack. There are reasons I took down my fics, one of them being that I DON'T want people to find and read them. Someone reuploading them where people can find and read them... Ugh, I don't even want to think about it. It's kinda like that embarrassing childhood photo your parents insist of showing to everyone, in a metaphorical sense.

That's a good comparison.

Deleting a gift is a jerk move. And I'd call that a bit different since it was given to you. But in most cases authors get to decide what happens with their writing. I think deleting fics isn't particularly nice, but I still believe authors have the right to do that if they want.
