I'm not really bothered by the act of rimming in itself, but by the lack of preparation involved (that includes fics that start in the middle of sex so I can pretend prepping happened offscreen). Most of the time characters just stick their tongues into unwashed asscracks without any preamble. And, well, consuming excrement is a major squick for me so I've had to close several fics that were otherwise really good.
Which is a long ramble to say that I agree with OP about tagging.

I'm the opposite. It's prep that makes it a turn-off for me, because suddenly it's like, oh we're being realistic here, and then my critical brain is engaged, and I'm thinking about stuff I don't want to be thinking about, and the hotness has left the building. AFAIC my faves all have buttholes and asscracks that smell like sexy roses and taste like sexy honey. Realism need not apply.

This, same. Plus I'm usually reading fic involving either fantasy and magic or aliens and the future, so I prefer to pretend that none of the realism stuff is necessary.

Yep, this. Everyone is magically clean all the time unless the fic is kinking on the nastiness.

I can excuse a lot of unrealisticness in my smut, but this is one thing that I can't get past. (Same with going straight from anal to oral) Sometimes there are extenuating things, like an off-hand mention of washing one's ass or a plausibility existing that prep was done offscreen. But usually not even that bare minimum is provided and all I can think about is poop being eaten and it completely throws me out of the fic. But as I said, excrement consumption is my squick so that's probably what sets my critical brain off.

Also, hard disagree on prep being a turn-off. Prep, foreplay and aftercare are the things that make smut sexy. The part with Tab A in Slot B is always the most boring.
