What is this secret? All the things you mention are awful, but none of them are related. What on earth do the things you talk about from the past, which were rare and awful, have to do with JK Rowling and calling out her transphobia and refusing to give her money that she uses to promote her transphobia?

This secret genuinely baffles me.

People don't learn! It was bad to tell people to kill themselves over this, and it was bad to tell people to kill themselves over that, and it was bad to tell people to kill themselves over the other, but this time, they think it's good to tell people to kill themselves!

I haven't seen any signs of people telling people to kill themselves in this instance except from some of the transphobic Rowling fans.

I've only seen trans people telling JKR fans or people that have the books or have bought the game to kill themselves!

where?

Weird. The only place where I've seen death treats is against trans creators who talk about JK transphobia, both directly or using "Avda Kadebra" as the only comment.

This right here. One of the trans people I follow on Youtube has been seriously traumatized by how many threats she's received.

I've been following some threads very closely for a while now and from what I've seen no trans person has urged someone to kill themselves, but I've seen some hurt people kind of lashing out. Almost always in a gracious manner, mind you, but sometimes they insult some overtly transphobis people. Or people that are intentionally being dense. As it's their right and as they should.
This is not a good time to be an out trans person. Internet is fucking vile towards them lately.

From transphobic people, though? OH BOY. death and violence threads everywhere. People inciting genocide (not calling it that, just saying that they should all "disappear" and someone should do something about it).
People fucking gloating because the harry potter franchise is intrinsically linked to JKR's transphobia and so they bought or intend to buy multiple copies of the game. It's fucking ridiculous.

BTW OP you know that there are trolls that can fake being trans and write fucking moronic comments (especially under right winger's channels) so that people can then call them out and paint all trans people like monster? Hence justifying and spreading their transphobia?

It doesn't just happen now with trans people..... It's fairly common online. Don't be naive.

I have literally had transphobic shitheads lob gifs of the Killing Curse at me or images of a tree with a noose.

Mostly the "harassment" has been trans people saying they're disappointed and aren't gonna stick around those creators.

Ah yes, the ever-classic 'I didn't see it so it didn't happen'.

I have seen death threats, just coming from Rowling fans. I'm not saying it isn't happening, I'm just saying that more threats and nastiness are coming from those defending Rowling.

What like Gretchen Felker-Martin saying she wants to slice JKRs throat. And many more on Twitter saying they'll happily slaughter any so called TERF who plays the game. You're lucky if you've missed it.

DA I just avoid twitter and amazingly avoid twitter death threats. It's an incredible strategy.

If people tell other people to kill themselves in every single online argument, then it's probably a characteristic of online arguments in general, and not anything specific to this online argument

In other words: telling people to kill themselves is unfortunately just what happens in online arguments.

This is the correct answer, sheesh.

Re: OP

Exactly! Like every internet fight, the loudest minority on either side of the spectrum are screaming hateful shit at each other, completely obscuring the fairly simple and reasonable request at the start of it. A request that, if you don't ideologically agree with, has no actual, real-world consequences other than "I guess we see this issue differently!" This happens in every single internet fight and it's so baffling when people don't take a step back and disengage instead of blowing it into an even bigger shitstorm.
