I'm genuinely curious, what circles are you in? Because no one in the circles I'm in, which includes a sector of trans Twitter, has demanded anyone kill themselves for buying the game. I'm not saying it's never happened, I've just not come across it.

I have seen people demanding to donate the money for trans charities (one of them the infamous Trans Lifeline) rather than buying the game, which is not the same than demanding to someone to kill themselves for buying the game, but they don't seem to understand the "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" definition.

To give one example, jambeast.tumblr.com has repeatedly been told he should kill himself for buying the game, even though he keeps repeating that he didn't buy or play the game. I think misanthropiccatboy.tumblr.com got some of the "kill yourself" anons too.

Based on OP's answer, they're in the kind of circles that think "wokeism" is the biggest threat to society. So, much like Jehovah's Witnesses who come home after a day of evangelizing shook up about the evil outsiders who refuse to be saved, OP and friends are heartbroken that telling Jews and trans folks that they're making shit up and not oppressed anyway has led to people being mean to them in the comments.

A streamer I follow wanted to play the game and donate the donations from those streams to Lgbt+ charities and still got death threats an masse so, yes, it happens. You get death threats on Twitter for shipping the wrong ships, why is it so hard to imagine that something this controversial wouldn't prompt death threats?

What on earth do the things you talk about from the past, which were rare and awful, have to do with JK Rowling and calling out her transphobia and refusing to give her money that she uses to promote her transphobia?

I didn't buy or play this game, and everything I've heard about it sounds awful. I'm just sick of all the moral crusades. People keep saying that this isn't what "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" is for, and that you can still believe that while harassing people (you think) bought the game. I don't think that's true at all. I think this is exactly what "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" is for, and if you harass people over that, then I'm sorry, but you do in fact believe some consumption under capitalism is more or less ethical.

You're not wrong; telling people to kill themselves over something like this is unhinged. OTOH, I'm not sure how many people are actually telling people to kill themselves over this. I don't think it's as common as this secret is suggesting it is.

If you're argument is actually, "Passing judgement on a person's entire moral character based on whether or not they buy the HP game is toxic moral absolutism and I dismay that this is the state of online discourse now," then...yeah, I agree with that too. But that's a whole lot more complicated of an issue than what's being put forwards in this secret.
