What cultures, myths, or lore would you love to see explored in media?

Inspired by secret 5. What real cultures, myths, or lore would you like to see explored in fiction?

Re: What cultures, myths, or lore would you love to see explored in media?

I’d like to see more Celtic, Indian and Buddhist mythology explored tbh. I feel like these aren’t approached with the same kind of enthusiasm as Greek/Roman/Norse is

Shintoism. The university lecture course I took about Japanese history glossed it over in favor of the christians arriving and how that upset the political landscape.

Celtic, Jewish (which is not the same as Christian, even when it deal with the Bible), Islamic, and ancient pagan religions like the Babylonians etc.

I mentioned this in a previous secret from a few months ago, but I'd love to see a story taking place in Kievan Rus.

I'd love to see more Finnic mythology explored. It's pretty rare to see media inspired by it even in Finland and Estonia. Though, admittedly, so much of it has been lost to christianisation.

I'd like to see more Shinto.

And more Scottish/Irish mythology that doesn't devolve into twiddly-twee leprechauns and drunks.

Mayan myths would be cool.

American Southern that isn't just scary hillbillies.

Going from previous FS secrets, I'd love to read more about the wendigo in non fiction and fiction. Native American sources a bonus, but not mandatory.

A peaceful thread if you're having a hard day (post peaceful things!)

(Anonymous) 2023-02-25 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Find a quiet and comfortable place where you will not be disturbed. Sit down and take a few deep breaths to calm your mind and body.

Visualize a bright, radiant white light surrounding you, filling you up with healing energy. Imagine this light is cleansing and purifying your body, mind, and spirit of any negative energy, stress, or pain.

As you breathe in, imagine the white light flowing into your body, healing any areas that need attention. As you exhale, release any tension or pain that you may be holding onto.

Now, direct this white light to anyone else who may need healing. You can visualize this light surrounding them and filling them up with healing energy.

Finally, express gratitude for the healing energy and for the people in your life. Take a deep breath in and out, and when you are ready, slowly open your eyes.

Remember, this ritual can be modified to suit your needs and preferences. You can add any additional elements that resonate with you, such as music, candles, or crystals.

Your shadow etched onto the wall behind you, the bright mushroom cloud ascending over the landscape...

Very nice, thanks OP. Had a very long drive today (from San Antonio to Dallas). Right now I'm relaxing with music and my kitty asleep on top of me.

Sites you enjoy

(Anonymous) 2023-02-25 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Any websites you like? Or a section of social media for things like a specific fandom?

I found out about Yesterweb.org on tumblr and I haven't been this excited over exploring the internet since my fan forum days.
I've been looking through the collection of links on the site https://links.yesterweb.org/
and came across https://www.thiswebsitewillselfdestruct.com/ where you can write messages anonymously to a website:
"I’m a website. I’ll be gone soon, and that’s okay.
You can send me messages using the form below. If I go 24 hours without receiving a message, I’ll permanently self-destruct, and everything will be wiped from my database."

I thought it was cute and was messaging lists of favorite things.

I'm not as active as I used to be, but I still love tumblr when I have the time to go on there. The Tolkien fandom, at least, is still active on there and still the nicest fandom I've ever been in.

fanac.org is a really interesting website about old fandom history, mostly science fiction fandom going back to the 1930s. They have a ton of old fanzines and stuff, and they also have a Youtube channel where they post stuff from old cons like panels, interviews and masquerades. Just a cool place to poke around.

ooh, ty for the Yesterweb rec.

I found this site through it... "Space Email is an indirect communication platform that allows for a unique exchange of conversation over space and time. You will never know who sent the things you receive, or why."

Pizza hut needs to stop discontinuing foods I love. First it was the seasoned crusts. Then it was the spicy pizzas. WHAT'S NEXT PIZZA HUT?

Offbrand Cheetos. My grocery store gets new brands of healthier alternatives to Cheetos every now and then but they keep getting discontinued.

What thing from your home country makes no sense?

(Anonymous) 2023-02-26 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
I live in the USA, and I never saw the point of pet rocks.

Before anybody asks, yes I was alive during the entirety of the 1970's.
