Save: most things, I really don't want to pay more than I have to for *things*.

Splurge: Stationery (I like pens that don't crap out on me and notepads with no bleed thrpugh) and shoes (because cheap, poor quality shoes are the fastest way to mess up your feet, knees, hips and back). Also butter, Kerrygold ftw.

So agreed on shoes. I've been wearing the same shoes since I started this job in 2021, and they are totally worth the money I spent on them. Bad shoes are awful on your whole body.

Personally I swear by Clarks. Cute, sturdy, and comfy.

And if they need to be touched up at the Cobbler's, it's much later, and you'll pay what you'll pay for a cheap replacement just to bring them up to speed, honestly. I have a pair of Clarks (brogues, very cute) since like...2016? I've only gotten them repaired once, this past year, after I've essentially treated them like shit for 6 years. Still cute, comfortable, and good for the workplace.

I'm with you-- I don't want to spend a bunch for a name brand when it's just a brand, and so many things have a solid store brand alternative-- sometimes better than the hyped up name brand version! BUT, I love that kerrygold butter. (and I cannot scrimp on stationery-- I NEED my journals to have good, solid paper, preferably that I can use watercolors on for my field journal, and while I will buy cheap pens for making grocery lists etc, my journaling and correspondence pens have to be the good stuff)
