Probably related: “Pedro Pascal has had enough with the ‘daddy’ stuff” https://www.esquireme.com/culture/film-and-tv/pedro-pascal-daddy

I'm sad the internet has been so extra about this that he's had to draw a boundary, but on the other hand... hooray for boundaries! I hope nobody gives him any shit about it.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-09 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, good for him for saying it-- it's the reporters more than the internet, here, though. Like, there's a lot on the internet he wouldn't see if they didn't insist on shoving it in his face and asking him to comment. And a red carpet quickie interview is different from an interview where he's going in knowing the vibe and mentally preparing for that, getting to prep for what questions are going to be asked, too! Like, if you go on Graham Norton, you know things will be cheeky at least, if you sign on to read thirst tweets you can mentally brace for everything the internet has to say, that one SNL sketch was like... a scripted way of poking fun at the whole situation. But someone just coming up and point blank asking him to read strangers' thirst tweets, instead of asking about his work, on a red carpet? Ew.

How, exactly?

Is someone forcing you to read it? Is there a reason you can't scroll past it (or just put '-Reader' in the Search within results box for AO3)? Do you think that if it didn't exist other kinds of fic would?

Re: How, exactly?

(Anonymous) 2023-03-08 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah as someone who heavily dislikes Reader/YN fic (mostly because my brain just cannot get over seeing 'Y/N' or 'Reader' and actually enjoy the story), just... don't read it?

Like, it's highly unlikely the people churning out reader fic are gonna magically pic another pairing if you ban it from existing.

Yeah if you couldn't do "-reader" it would be really annoying, because there's a ton of it so it's a bother to scroll by, and it's inconsistently tagged so you can't easily filter

But.... you can do "-reader". so I just do that.

Re: How, exactly?

You can do -reader on AO3. Also you have to do - character/reader, another chatacter/reader, character/oc, character/you, you, y/n. Because most of reader authors don't tag properly. Ever.
And then you go on tumblr/twitter/discord and there are more reader stuff. And y/n stuff. And you can't block it properly because reader is a normal fucking word. And fans also don't tag properly there. And with y/n you also block normal phrases like day/night. So yes readers part of fandom is really frustrating. And you can't just block them.

I think on AO3, if you do -"reader" in the Search Within Works bar, I think it should at least catch all of the different ship permutations and such.

Still does suck on Tumblr, though.

Oh, thanks, I will try it!

Well, at least tumblr doesn't have limit on blocking people. It's been easier to do that. *shighs*

(Anonymous) 2023-03-09 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't like it and there's a lot of it, but it's not "ruining" anything. You can do a lot better by creating and/or supporting things you do like than complaining about things you don't like but aren't harming anyone.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-09 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, more anti secrets. Why are you like this? It is sort of gross.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-09 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. Why are *you* like this. Come on.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-09 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, it's not. You're trying to make this into a thing, but it just isn't.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-09 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, recognizing this is probably a troll, but is this what an anti? Someone who doesn't like X and would prefer not to have X cross their searches/dash?

And I ask as someone who is, in the context of this secret, very much into what OP is not into at all.

How is not liking something such a big deal? Back in the Twilight era, I was part of both an anti Twilight forum, where people shit on the characters, the books, the author, etc. and a Twilight fanfiction archive, where a bunch of people would write pages upon pages of fic for their faves (I did this too!). In my fandom experience, if you like X, gush about it in a space where other people are happy. If you don't, complain about it in a different space. And if you ran into something you didn't like... then, as now, scroll on by. I don't get why people are making such a fuss over this on general.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-09 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, Jan.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-09 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
EVIL CACKLING

Because this is MY SHIT! but also, tears, because I recently quit fic, and man this would have been right up & down, wall to wall my alley.

All I can say is avoid Pedro Pascal fandoms for the next few years, then you'll find more gen/other stuff. Good luck, OP.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-09 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh hey maybe that's why people are reading my old TLOU fic now! I figured they'd be so busy with the new stuff no one would find it.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-09 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
oh god I'm so tired of /reader fics everywhere. I change my bookmarks to filter it out in one fandom, just for it to crop up in another fandom.
