The only time I did a non-Yuletide exchange, I was assigned to a BNF who wrote one of the most-read fics for the pairing.

My recip never acknowledged it. No comment, no kudos, no mention on their tumblr or twitter, nothing. And boy, were they active af, especially on twitter. I also looked at their gifts tab, and it was habitual to never interact.

All of which is to say, OP, I feel you. That behavior sucks.

I'm sorry that happened to you. That person was me. Well, not me specifically as I don't have Twitter, but I've been that person. And you're right, she should've responded when you reached out. Maybe it was pride, or embarrassment at her inability to deliver (I have acted stupid in this way, though I didn't cut them off), especially if you two were friends. Maybe it was something else entirely. And whether she tweets three times a day or three times a year, she should've trusted you enough to be honest about the situation.

Same thing happened to me, OP, and they were one of my very favorite writers in a fandom that was fading. I think she just had lost the taste for the pairing and didn't want to admit she wasn't into it, but I gave her so many opportunities to bow out and I think she just had too much pride. But jeez, what shitty behavior. I felt so rotten about it. *sending you a sympathetic hug*

Hmm. Trying to think of a reply since I have been on both sides of the fence.

On one hand this could be me if I had joined any fic exchanges in the past five years. Being "usually reliable" unfortunately means I deal very badly when I am unable to be reliable for any reason I may not understand to the point of explaining to others. Besides I tweet compulsively to stay afloat (things like cats and ships and the unavoidable everyday life and so on) so I totally get her because writing takes a certain degree of inspiration and well-being while tweeting doesn't. On the other hand it does suck to be ghosted and have people act irresponsibly obviously. This goes without saying.

But, just had a thought - are you sure she read your message and simply ignored you or is it possible that she didn't log in to that particular social media?

The same happened to me with a Big Bang. I'm a writer and the artist ghosted me so you can add in a layer of "did they ghost me because my writing was terrible and they didn't know how to tell me?" to it all as well.

All it takes is a sentence. Just a short sentence saying you're busy or you can't.

My sympathies, anon. I once got a story I hated in a Big Bang. (I found out later that the author had copy pasted the characters names into an existing book. I still tried my hardest, drew 5 pictures for them - which got enough commentsthat i knew they came out okay. The author never acknowledged the art, which seemed beyond rich given their plagiarism.

I have been in similar situations, on both ends. I'm sorry that happened OP. All I can really say is, there are often a lot of underlying reasons as to why they're behaving the way they are and no matter the reason that sucks that you were ghosted.

In terms of social media I tend to steer away from reading into why someone is publicly active or socializing with other people. If they don't want to talk to me, oh well. The energy I used when I was worried if I did something wrong or if my friend is avoiding me only hurt me. Learning to let things go and prioritize my thoughts on other things.

Hmm. On the one hand, I really don't like to hate on youtubers unless they've done/said concrete things I can point to and be like, "That is shitty." And I can't really think of anything like that with Chelsea, that I'm aware of.

But there is something about her whole vibe that's been subtly putting me off for a while now. So idk, I guess maybe I kind of agree with you. OTOH, maybe this is just one of those cases where I need to accept that her content isn't for me. Just because she makes budgeting and finances content doesn't mean her content is for working class people like me. Like, when someone talks about budgeting and saving money, I relate to that because I'm kinda poor and those things are a challenge. But middle and upper-middle-class people also care about their budgets and their savings, and I think it's pretty clear that those are the people TFD's content is really for.
