I don't watch things with subtitles, basically ever. It's not because I dislike reading or I don't like things from other cultures. It's because watching something with subtitles requires it to be your primary focus. And 99% of the time, I want whatever I'm watching to be more in the background.

100% this! I mostly watch stuff while I'm eating my dinner. I can't watch stuff with subs (which for me would usually kpop variety shows) while I'm eating because I sometimes need to look at my food, and then oops, I missed something important while I was looking away, I'll have to rewind, but my fingers are covered in burger juice and I don't want to get grease on my TV remote and...it becomes a whole ordeal that takes 40 minutes to watch a 20 minute episode. So I have to save that stuff for when I can give it 100% of my attention.

This is true for me as well. I cannot just sit and watch, I am always multitasking.
