I agree about SG1, but I liked Atlantis because it was basically the same but the main culture they were exploring was technologically advanced and thus ALSO mythologized to the vast majority of the non-technologically advanced societies.

I liked the idea of Atlantis and a lot of the worldbuilding. But most of the characters were so unlikable I only lasted until a couple episodes into season 3,

That's fair. I liked most of the characters, but can easily see why someone wouldn't. There were a LOT of assholes on that city.

I liked Atlantis a lot, too, for Rodney and John and Ronon and Tayla, and for the exploring stuff. Didn't enjoy the White Colonizer/US is Best crap that got shoved in there way too much.
