There is also the very scary and documented 'lots of Americans were lead poisoned' thing, which also leads to issues with reading and comprehension.

Plus, also, Americans on the whole can be pretty fucking stupid.

Our education system tries to rattle out its curriculum in the fastest, cheapest way possible, which leads to poor education quality and a bunch of dumb children.

They blitz them through learning to get to certain points so they can do the standardized tests (for which they get funding), and the kids end up learning crap by rote rather than really *learning* it. It's depressing.

I'm not. It's speculated it's the root cause of a LOT of issues here in the US. It's gotten a lot better, but particularly in poor, urban areas, kids are still being poisoned (and in places like Flint, Michigan, too....)

Oh my god! I am genuinely sorry. And I thought that growing up with food shortages and extreme crime rates was bleak. At least as far as I know we weren't lead poisoned.
