Re: Need to vent

Reminds me of when my wife went to work for a national pizza chain (finance dept). It wasn't the first day, but within the first month her boss wanted her to ignore about $1m that had been missing for months because correcting it would make her (the boss) look bad. If my wife had done this, and it was discovered, she could have lost her license and bond. She reported it (one of those third party reporting companies), nothing happened, so she quit and reported it in her exit interview where she found out that the third party company had changed their reporting number about two years before and no one in the pizza chain bothered to update that info in their materials. She later learned that her former boss got an award and a promotion.

What the hell????

How does that happen? Isn't that supposed to be what auditors are for?

AYRT

I also work in finance, and we have two auditors: internal come through annually and external come through about every four to five years. I was still flummoxed though, because at my company we have to true up at the end of each month and there are about three departments that have to true up together, so if we're off by even a cent, we all know and have to fix it. The idea of missing a million is mind-boggling to me.
