Doesn't she have magic powers with a magic suit?

(Anonymous) 2023-04-13 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Sure. But the powers in part enhance the physical prowess of the person who has the powers. T'Challa was extremely physically strong even without the powers. So it would have made more sense for someone who was also physically strong to be the one given the powers. Okoye could have been given them, which would still have had it be a woman who became Black Panther but it would have made more sense.

Not my secret, but I agree with the sentiment.

I was hoping for Nakia, myself.

(Anonymous) 2023-04-13 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I was pretty sure it was going to be Shuri, but I wanted it to be Nakia, or Okoye.

I was honestly hoping for anyone but Shuri.

Personally, I don't think size matters that much when it comes to credibility. I've never said that Bruce Lee is too small to take seriously, for example, because there are more important factors.

Bruce Lee might not be a huge guy, but I don't think anyone's described him as looking "thin and frail". He was wiry and very obviously well muscled and in great shape. I haven't seen BP2. Does Shuri look like that? I'd be surprised if that were the case, but I don't know.

A lot of Hollywood women do look thin and frail because that's the body-type in demand (and it's really nice when we see someone who isn't!) This particular actress (Letitia Wright) is thin but doesn't look particularly frail to me - at least as strong as the actress playing Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o). I don't like the actress for many other reasons, but I think if we can't have one of the Dora Milaje, Shuri is ok, and has also been Black Panther in the comics.

Nope, Shuri looks really thin and frail, like she'd snap in half if you grabbed her. It's very easy to see because the movie is full of women who don't look like that. I can believe that Bruce Lee kicked ass, but I can't believe that Letitia Wright would have.

It absolutely doesn't. I know a black belt in karate who is all of 4'9" and I have watched her take down guys more than twice her size.

Women can't ever win, can they? Especially in Hollywood. Too fat, too thin, too this or that. It's exhausting.

(Anonymous) 2023-04-14 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, you’re right.

I am not sure about body type. I rarely see satisfying body types in Hollywood anyway (I would like to see more REALLY muscular bodies in superhero media both male and female. Thank you Peacemaker for doing it right).
But I do not like nor character nor actress so I find her being Black Panther disappointing
