Um, yeah. Obviously, they're more sci-fi than horror. Are there people who argue the contrary?

I see them on horror lists a lot. But honestly I never saw them as horror. It doesn't even feel cross-genre like the Alien movies or Event Horizon. Not scary enough.

I don't think they fit cleanly into either horror or sci-fi. Action blockbuster with horror and sci-fi elements is probably the cleanest description.

If think it should primarily be in a mega monster/ creature feature type genre (where movies like Jurassic Park and Jaws are the pinnacle of the genre, but movies like The Meg and even Sharknado fit as well - kinda like how you can say The Exorcist and the umpteenth Friday the 13th sequel are both horror).

And then those movies have their subgenres (for JP, that's action and sci fi; for Jaws, that's horror/thriller, IIRC).

The comparison I was thinking of was King Kong, which definitely fits in that category as well.
