The weather tonight means the smell from the local abattoir is being trapped in the muggy fog layer the town instead of being blown away.

This is not a petty complaint. Lol.

My tablet's word processing and autocorrect function is being a vitch tonight.

I wish we as humans had chosen better words for the things now known as "fatphobia" and "misogynoir." They're important concepts to be aware of and discuss, but as words they're ridiculous and I can't take them seriously. I will discuss them, but I will not use those words even if I have to use longer phrases to describe what I mean.

I had never heard of misogynoir. It sounds like a misogyny mystery.

I don't think "fatphobia" is even a good description of the concept! But "misogynoir" is a fantastic word.

Yeah, seriously. But in my case, the pile of words I would like to use if they didn't seem really objectionable for other reasons is a large one. The one I tend to mention I've got a problem with before I try to talk about what it's referring to, the most often, is "epistemic violence." I could use that as the poster child for what not to do, because what it's actually trying to name is the rich and powerful leveraging their social clout into being able to dictate right and wrong to everyone else in a self-serving way that screws over marginalized people.

It's what Anatole France is getting at when he said (I'm paraphrasing from memory here) "the law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike from sleeping under bridges and stealing loaves of bread." With, you know, the very obvious implication that the only ones who would ever be punished for resorting to this supposedly immoral behavior were people who didn't have warm houses to preferentially sleep in and money to exchange for food. That's what epistemic violence is about - being a social outcast because the rich have managed to get the whole society they control to look down on someone and punish them for being poor and needy. But the word is so abstract and academic that most of the people who might want to use it to describe something that actually happens to them either never come across it or would feel like pretentious assholes and be ridiculed by their peers if they tried.

Well, IMO if you can't get past the stupid sounding words you're another asshole who created a new non-issue for us to focus on rather than the issue in itself.

Like, I get it, I do. But in the same vein I'm just so fucking tired of progressive spaces giving room for everyone to express their thoughts and we should have conversation over everything lest someone get self-righteous about never being heard.

Yeah, fatphobia and misygonoir sound weird/stupid/joke words created by Andrew Dice Clay in 1991 to make fun of those very class of people. And that's why you struggle to use these terms, which are intrinsic to putting light on and giving space to address these issues?
OK thanks for that.

I'll try to keep that in mind the next time a black woman is murdered ?????

I am annoyed nobody uses subject lines anymore.

Except for starter threads. I know they're not really needed, but that's my petty dumb complaint.

Yes! I would love it if people used subject lines more frequently. It's just so helpful in navigating comment threads.

Spent an otherwise very nice weekend with my family and a lot of their friends because my niece got married but I wish my mother would not do things like snap at me to do something she can see I'm already doing.

Ah, mothers. Our greatest critics; our first and last bullies. The only ones who can always get under our skin no matter how thick it grows.

OP.... I know I started this comment thread with some specific complaint in mind, but it's totally escaped me.

I like youtube channels that do lists of historical things. But it drives me crazy when it reports things that are either entirely myth or at least very exaggerated as fact. Like Elizabeth Bathory and claiming she actually bathed in blood.

Yeah, watching people repeat stuff that we've got every reason to believe isn't true bothers me also. Controversy and reasonable doubt is different, but just blah, blah, Washington and the cherry tree, seems like such a waste of life. First in learning garbage and then in having to revise it with "whoops, that was faked" ... assuming the person who heard it ever did find out they were lied to.

So, empathizing muchly, anon.

As someone in a managerial position I find people who complain about other people returning from lunch/break late way more disruptive to workplaces than the people who return late.

I can be a bit of a stickler with people coming into work late and leaving early but IMO that's because higher ups tend to notice that more. But coming from lunch/break a little late isn't something worth getting upset about, especially since the people returning tend to come back within the 5 minute window of forgiveness. I get it if people return to work 10+ minutes on a regular basis but ISTFG there is one employee who reports to me daily about who is coming back from lunch late when I'm sitting right there with them.
Telling them "I've got it" to only have them undermine my handling of the situation makes me mad that I can't move this person to different department lol

Like, I get it if it interferes with work and production but it doesn't. This employee just wants everyone to adhere to these stupid arbitrary rules they do and oh no, how dare no one else do šŸ™„

Have you ever told the annoying employee to stop directly?

"I got it" sounds to me like you're doing something, like talking with the late employee or noting it down or whatever. I can see how an employee who's a stickler for the rules might not get (or with plausible deniability pretend to not get) that you're telling them to cut it out.

To me this would 100% depend on the job and whether people returning late is affecting others' ability to LEAVE for break. Like, in my work all breaks are done so that there's always x amount of people around, so if you come back 5 or 10 minutes late, that next person is leaving late and may not get their full break if they need to be back at Y time.

In an office, as long as they're not missing meetings or something else time sensitive, who cares?

Well, it started out as a petty complaint about the new process involving computers but quickly turned into a angry panicky rant about being resentful about getting put more at risk of being fired so I deleted it. Heh.

I spent last afternoon into ass o'clock in the morning puking and couldn't even keep down water. Now my entire abdomen hurts.

I called in sick to work and we're short staffed and I have shit to do, and I'm afraid to eat in case I turn into a puke fountain again.

I don't even know what could've caused it; all I had to eat yesterday was freshly made brown rice with butter, and some oranges.

My condolences, nonny. Stomach stuff sucks. Norovirus is going around pretty much everywhere right now.
