Do we actually have any evidence that Tingle is particularly effective?

(Anonymous) 2023-05-02 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the douchebro right-wing SFF writers known as the Sad Puppies (and their offshoot the Rabid Puppies) nominated him for a Hugo as a put-down, and he took it seriously and used the platform to promote other people they hated. And the Rabid Puppies haven't managed to run a group voting ticket since, so it did something at least in that small field.

I remember that one, LOL. The Sad Puppies were just pathetic, and Tingle did a good job in sucker punching them back.

(Anonymous) 2023-05-02 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
It was good stuff Tingle did but I wouldn't say Tingle was the primary reason the Puppies weren't really successful

(Anonymous) 2023-05-02 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
I remain unaffected by him.

I don't know if it's effective but it's funny.

Effective? I have no idea. Funny as heck to see what he comes out with? Oh yes. (And the few people I've seen who actually read the books say they're actually decent reads? I have to admit I'm intrigued.)

I'm reminded of Lindsay Elis's (maybe?) Video about nazis in fiction. All about how they love depictions that show them as big, scary, baddies because they *want* to be big, scary, baddasess. But shit like The Producers can't be turned by them into useful propaganda.

Idk if it's making an impact but I love that it's out there.

Sort of off topic, but for the longest time I had no idea where the hell I had gotten the song "Springtime for Hitler" and that was the only bit I knew too (I was convinced it was a missing number in the Sound of Music).

Turns out I had only seen bits of both movies (2005 Nathan Lane version of the Producers), that song for stuck in my head, and I was further convinced it had actually come from the 2007 Vin Diesel movie the Pacifier, since one of the kids in the movie is playing a Nazi in the Sound of Music for a school play.

Anyway. Very confused until someone told me where that line was from!

Also, Chuck Tingle covers and titles make me laugh.

Nayrt

But that’s hilarious! And also, something I probably would have assumed too if I hadn’t already seen The Producers(the original). Imagining The Von Trapp family being in the same room as Nazis singing Springtime for Hitler is especially making me laugh!

DA

I was born where the Austro-Hungarian Empire
used to be. My family has a crest from that former country.

You guys are a laugh riot.

(Anonymous) 2023-05-03 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Why? Just because we forgot which fictional movie fictional song Springtime for Hitler came from? Or because I found it funny to imagine anyone from Sound of Music singing the song? Why are we specifically a “laugh riot”, just because you’re from where the Austro-Hungarian Empire used to be, or because your family has a crest from that former country? We didn’t say anything offensive to Austro-Hungarian Empire descendants, or anything offensive at all really, so why are we a laugh riot to you? I don’t know if that was the tone you were going for, but your response sounds weirdly superior and condescending for no reason.

He has been fun in a memeing kind of way.

I was surprised to find out that in addition to being absolutely hilarious, Chuck seems to be genuinely a very good, gracious, genuine person. One of my favorite folks on social media these days. Not what I was expecting when I first found out about "some strange person writing porn about gay dinosaurs or something".

(Anonymous) 2023-05-02 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
I think Chuck Tingle is a fake. And I don't find his erotica erotic.

(Anonymous) 2023-05-02 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
Whaaaat, his joke porn might not be serious? No!

(Anonymous) 2023-05-02 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
A fake as in a made up person, or a person who’s not as genuine as he seems? Because he is a real person, although it’s a pseudonym I’m pretty sure. But even though he seems like a nice guy, I don’t know him personally, so I can’t vouch for him there.

And I’ve never read any of his books, but I assumed his erotica wasn’t supposed to be erotic, just funny.

(Anonymous) 2023-05-03 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
sa
A made up person.
I think his erotica is a waste of time, not erotic or too funny. I think it's all a hoax.

(Anonymous) 2023-05-03 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
It’s only a waste of time if you keep reading when you don’t enjoy it, nonny. And why would you do that?
