I love yaoi and slash. LOVE! And I admit that in my younger days yaoi/slash ate my brain. But even then I never stopped liking certain het couples or worse yet, I never flat out hated them. I just don't get the full on stop that some fans hit when it comes to yaoi versus het. They're both awesome. :D

[identity profile] weirdmisty.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Frankly, I don't get anyone who calls themself a yaoi/slash fan. How can you determine the quality of a pairing based only on the type of genitals involved? It's totally beyond me -_-

Poster up there already said it but I went through the phase too. When I first got into slash it was all shiny and interesting and het just seemed dull as hell in comparison. After awhile the shine wore off and slash became comfortable and familiar...just like het. Now I ship damn everything.

Oh and FTR slash and femslash happened for me at around the same time so anything I say about slash applies to femslash too.

[identity profile] post-position.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I was like that too for a few years. After the novelty wore off I started shipping both again.

Don't worry, you're probably just caught up in it! Enjoy it, give it some time, and your het-liking will probably come back. I went through that too (:

(Anonymous) 2009-06-04 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
not crazy, just shallow

[identity profile] andromeda-2.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I personally never went through the "Slash is good, Het is ew" phase when I started getting into slash. I seem to have been one of the few, though.

But like the above commenters said, you'll probably get back into it :)

[identity profile] starza.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I just never really got this. Even when I did get into slash, I never stopped shipping het pairings I adored and I still love het to this day along with slash.

Then again, I don't get why people like just slash and hate het with a passion. Then again, I was always a person with 'If they got chemistry in canon, I can/will/may ship it'.

Maybe I missed something?

(Anonymous) 2009-06-04 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I hope you grow out of your superficial behavior.

[identity profile] cutesiness.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Never experienced this because I've always liked to ship both, but from what other people have said, it seems it's just a phase. Just don't hate on any girls now. :)

No, just a typical fangirl. But you'll get over it eventually, when the newness of slash wears off a little.

[identity profile] sessile29.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. I think it's normal. I think the one and only het pairing I actively sought fic for and tried to write was Mulder/Scully. Then I found Mulder/Krycek and that's all she wrote. :) I have het couples that I like and think they are/would be good together, but nothing I really pursue, and certainly not like I do slash. There's nothing wrong with it; you like what you like. My own perspective is that slash, in general, just makes more sense to me, in a way that's hard to describe. I've never stopped being drawn to it since I first found it existed. I love it, personally. :D

I went through a similar phase. Even now it takes a really great het pairing for me to care about it (to boot I've acquired femslash goggles). Just like what you like and don't worry about it.

[identity profile] checkmatey.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
lol me too
i don't really care about het pairings anymore

[identity profile] wicked-seraph.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I went through a similar thing a few years ago, though the circumstances were a little bit different, perhaps; I 'discovered' slash/yaoi around the same time I started re-evaluating my stance on homosexuality and the like. I think this may have contributed to me temporarily favouring yaoi/slash over het pairings. That phase thankfully came and went. /end tl;dr schpiel.

Either way, eventually you'll get over it and, I hope, ship regardless of their genders. :]

[identity profile] twyla-hime.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
As a yaoi/slash fan, I went through a period where I wasn't interested in het anymore. Though I never hated any het pairings I previously liked. I still like those pairings, and now I'm starting to notice new ones I might enjoy.

Just give it time. But whatever you do, don't go insulting others who do like het pairings. Realize it's possible to ship the same guy with a female character and a male character. You don't have choose one and bash the other. If you like both pairings, so be it!

(Anonymous) 2009-06-05 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
It's kind of different for me. I find yaoi terribly boring, the only pairings I find interesting are het pairings.

(Anonymous) 2009-06-05 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
I mostly like het, but I also like some slash and femslash pairings.

I could never be a hardcore slash fan, though, because anal sex is a turn-off for me (yes, I've done it myself IRL multiple times and it just doesn't do it for me.)

I'm also not fond of the habit some writers have of forcing a male character into an OOC 'female' role in the relationship. For a Naruto example, this is why I can't stand SasoDei, because lots of authors keep feminizing Deidara waaaay too much when he's quite masculine in canon. What's wrong with having two cool, manly dudes hooking up? Why does one have to act like a stereotypical girl?

I had a phase where I preferred slash to het, though not really to the point of exclusion... I think it was mostly because I was caught up in series that had female characters that I just didn't find appealing, for whatever reasons. It just made more sense to have the boys get together, considering.

I still tend to read more slash than het, but having good het pairings and interesting female characters are something that I think I was missing out on for a while.

Hopefully it's just a phase.

I find it amusing how everyone says it's just a phase when it may as well not be. For one, since I started reading Slash back in 2004 or so, have never really paid any special attention to Het couples again. Which makes it, what? 5 years now? That's a rather long phase. It's not that mind a certain character being paired with another guy or a girl in different fics, I really don't.

It's just that I don't seek that kind of thing anymore. Sure, there have been particular moments when I sought Het fiction for a particular pairing but those were few and far apart. I think I've read less than 5 het fics during all these years. <_< Perhaps I'm just shallow as hell, idek, maybe it's a problem but I've never thought of it as one.

It's going on seven years for me. I don't hate het, but I do find nearly all of it boring now. The slash love has outlasted my loss of interest in some fandoms, too. If it's a phase it's a hell of long one.

[identity profile] tsukinofaerii.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I think everyone goes through that, to a certain extent. Gods know I did, and it still takes an exceptionally nommable het couple to haul me away from slash.

I think it has something to do with the "ewwwww slash, that's sick and wrong" side of the fence, which is sometimes mistaken for het-readers. (Sometimes they coincide, but not always.) I think when we first get into it, we're a little extra defensive because it's so forbidden and &c &c, so when some ass comes up and says "that's disgusting", we kind of over-react. Instead of it being something we just like we become exclusive about it. "Well, I don't need your icky opposite-sex pairings anyway, so :P"

(Note to self: Use that line IRL sometime.)

Then, for a lot of us, after we settle in, we get more secure and start wandering back.

(sits back in her computer chair, pencil and paper at the read) Now, tell me about your dreams... /internet psychologist lol

[identity profile] bleed-peroxide.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I was sort of like that for a while, but now I can ship both. Once the novelty wears off, you'll expand your shipping tastes to het and yaoi/yuri.
