I was AYRT and posted my response to you in the original thread (in case you see this but not that)

great mashup of two of these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq_5UQry3T4

I lose it at the 3-eyed ravens every time.

And fandom deciding that a squick isn't a good enough reason to not want to see something has made "trigger" the only word option for many...

❤️❤️❤️

I read the screenplay and had full body cringe from secondhand embarrassment. No regrets at not watching it, not ever.

It was also just after my Regrettable Mormon Boyfriend phase, so.

Overall, I agree with the sentiment, anon.

I get the impression that I'm watching the tide turning, lately, and the dogmatists who used to be able to access social approval for their little spectacles of petty judgement are playing to dwindling and less sympathetic audiences. I don't know what's getting people over their susceptibility to just believe it, when some melodramatic no-account asserts the only reason other fans could possibly like something that the speaker detests is because they are all morally deficient, but I would love to understand why people finally seem to be getting fed up with that narrative. And, as far as I'm concerned, that's long overdue!

It's the exact same philosophy behind it, though. "I feel shitty, so I'll get this cute skirt and then I'll feel better." And sure, you get the skirt, but it doesn't actually make you feel better, so then you think "well if I buy some shoes to go with it, THAT will definitely make me feel better," only that doesn't make you feel better either, and you just keep going deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole and buying more and more stuff in the hopes that the next thing will be the one to magically fix whatever is making you feel bad. I've seen it happen to people multiple times, which is why I don't think it's something related to gacha specifically but rather an issue of trying to use spending money on something you want as a form of therapy.

Spending money when you're stressed and feeling lousy is a recipe for disaster, period, because it's way too easy to fall into the trap of "I'll just buy one more thing because SURELY that will make me feel better."

I feel for you because while not that extreme, I have been in a similar position before with this game and I know this doesn't help you but: the Traveller is a dendro 5 star. With full constellation once you're done with the main plot. I mean, I get wanting the special new characters and all but the Traveller is right there, just waiting to be built. And their dendro skill is actually pretty decent.

Saying as MCU hater, no, they aren't worse. The thing is they don't really bring anything new to the table either. MCU was fresh when it startered so people could much more easier ignore all the bad things for some fun action. Now it's getting stale and boring because this movies don't really change.

I just blocked the official account for the Don't Nod game publisher on Twitter because I kept getting the ad for their upcoming new game.
It's a visual novel.
I hate visual novels.
Yes I'm petty.

The NPCs are not as they seem

I was just catching up on what I missed in the Genshin threads from yesterday, and I was gasping with laughter when I got to this:

>A friend of mine started doing Dragonspine stuff a bit back and met Joel's dad and I was like DON'T TRUST HIM HE'S PROBABLY A WHOPPERFLOWER and she was like, "wtf is wrong with you?"

So true, anon. We get used to the plot twists, and the shape-shiftiness, and the cloak and dagger, and the occasional human sacrifice, and then someone new comes in and yeah. XD; Good times.

But thanks for explaining about the Scara/Mona shipping. I only did part of the U-Stars event (got tired of manipulating the goddamn mountains!)

Yeah, same. Tbf I don't really big on F/F smut either. But it doesn't cringe me as much as F/M

I always confuse this show with The Executioner and Her Way of Life.

Now I'm really confused, Napoleon Dynamite is one of my favorite movies but I was very upset by Welcome to the Dollhouse to the point where I couldn't finish watching it.

Not secret: I think Frasier's a great show.
Secret: I got very tired of the Lilith is evil jokes. I rather like Lilith. (anyway Frasier did cheat on her so he was no saint)

Eh, I just remember the people who managed to get into insane credit card depth because they were addicted to buying all the crap from homeshopping channels back in the day so I'd say it's kinda similar after all.

THey don't need to change because the formula works.

Re: How to get a full-ride scholarship?

(Anonymous) 2023-05-07 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
Study real hard, get superb grades, do no more than two extra curriculars (colleges notice when you have a massive amount and know it means you aren't doing any of them well, one or two more focused extra curiculars mean you are taking them seriously), write a real good personal statement which sounds genuine to you and not a canned one from a trainer or a site. Know exactly why you are going to college and what you want to do, lean into medicine with family medicine or urgent care in a poorer state where frontline doctors are in demand and colleges are under pressure to get students through their degree and into in-state med schools to fill those gaps. And research your institution, get a letter of personal support from an alumni. Preferably a professor or someone who guest teaches at it. Contact their admissions department and ask to speak to someone to find out what they are looking for the most. Those personal relationships are key.

I know it is a lot, but getting a full ride is a lot of money so the school wants to know you can put in a lot of work to get it. There are also services who research what scholarships might be available for you, look into working with one of them. For example, does your church or your parents employers have a scholarship program, many do and those that don't often know a scholarship opportunity somewhere else and can refer you on. Not gonna lie to you, getting a full ride is hard and you are gonna have to put in the equivalent of a fulltime job just getting one, and maybe keeping it too.

Definitely deserves a promotion to canon.

Nah, that is exactly Arthur. Don't get me wrong; he is a nice guy and knows what he wants out of his life and his job, and he got it, but it is something dumb and silly in his world (and out of universe too) which would hold his family back if they are seeking out conventional employment. Notice his older kids both have non-conventional employments, and the twins are also non-conventionally employed prior to V's return. His behavior doesn't affect them, it would have affected Ron too if he'd had a normal childhood and wanted to progress to auror without the whole dark lord returns thing happening, but not Ginny. It certainly affected Percy, who even without the whole dark lord factor would probably have had to distance himself from his family to progress or be forced to also see non conventional employment.
