What was your favorite childhood movies?

(Anonymous) 2023-05-12 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I was certainly a Disney kid, especially with the amount of times I rewatched Beauty & the Beast, Alladin, The Little Mermaid and Snow White (Also Nightmare before Christmas and Who Framed Roger Rabbit if we're counting Touchstones as Disney)

But I also used to love watching action and sci-fi movies with my Dad; like Total Recall, Demolition Man, The Running Man, Highlander (the first movie is the best one \o/) and The Fifth Element.
Then there were three particular movies on vhs I remember rewatching whenever I visited my grand parents; The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship (which the whole thing is actually on youtube lol), The Last Unicorn and Muppets Treasure Island.

Oh! I was just thinking about Return to Oz the other day (mostly thinking about the wheeler legged guys) - I think I'm well overdue a rewatch.

When I was growing up I watched the He-Man movie every time I went to visit my grandparents. Because they only had VHSs of boring ass movies (to a child) and that was the only one with some action in it.

At home I watched Space Camp, Real Genius, Who Framed Roger Rabbit Clue, The Breakfast Club, Princess Bride, Weird Science, Home Alone, Ghostbusters, Spaceballs... off the top of my head.

My siblings and I grew up on television. We always had VCRs and my dad recorded so many things off the TV. Movies I can think of at the top of my head:
The Breakfast Club
Ghostbusters
The Empire Strikes Back
The Return of the Jedi
Home Alone 1 and 2
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Now and Then
That Night
A League of Their Own
The First Wives Club
The Terminator 2
Mary Poppins
The Lion King
Dirty Dancing
The Princess Bride
Labyrinth
Grease
Hairspray
Cry-Baby
Serial Mom
Robocop
Disney's Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Oliver and Company, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Mulan
There were a few Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen movies I really liked as a little kid LOL but I don't know the titles at all
Back to the Future, all 3 films, but mostly the first 2
Rumble in the Bronx
Indiana Jones, all 3 but I have the strongest memories from Temple of Doom and Last Crusade
Enter the Dragon
Drunken Master 1 and 2
Police Story 2
Hard-Boiled
Operation Condor (probably the Jackie Chan film I've watched the most)
Police Story 3: Supercop
Twin Dragons
all the Once Upon a Time in China movies Jet Li starred in but mostly the second and third ones
Tai Chi Master
The Bodyguard from Beijing
My Father is a Hero
Wing Chun
Seven Princesses of Wuxia

There are so many movies I know I'm missing...I'm sorry Andy Lau, Stephen Chow, John Woo, Tom Cruise, SRK, Madhuri Dixit, Tom Hanks, Kirsten Dunst, John Candy and a bunch of other childhood idols who I watched so many of their films.

I guess I was an "old versions of Disney" kid because my two favourites were definitely...
- The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
- Peter Pan (1960) [stage version with Mary Martin]

Plus the genuinely Disney Fantasia (1940). And Alice in Wonderland (1951).
