Re: Dumb question

There is most likely some Nubian heritage on her mother's side, and Persian heritage on both sides, as well as mostly Macedonian. But the real issue with this debate is that everyone doesn't fit into neat little American racial categories. Are Macedonians white? Sometimes. Are they black? No. What about Persians? What about someone with one African ancestor? The answer is highly variable.

That is not really the argument though! People who think that Cleopatra was black are not saying that, well, Macedonians and Persians don't count as exactly white, so therefore, Cleopatra was a person of color. And they're not saying that Cleopatra had one African ancestor. They're saying that Cleopatra was like, a Nubian or an Ethiopian.

The argument has nothing to do with modern American notions of race.

Yeah, it's quite likely that Cleopatra actually WAS POC from her mother's side (probably Persian), just not black. That's the issue at hand.
